(Amazon Kindle News) Amazon.com has slashed the price of its Kindle 2 from $359 to $299. It’s the first time that a new Kindle has been available at under $300. The move was made possible by Prime View International’s acquisition of E-Ink, Amazon.com had been using both Prime View International and E-Ink in the production of the Kindle, and both companies merging has brought down production costs. Amazon.com hasn’t given any indication if the decreased production costs will also result in a price drop for the newest Kiindle model – the Kindle DX. All three versions of the Amazon Kindle have sold well and are expected to surpass the 2 million sold mark by Christmas.
The last time Amazon.com reduced the price of a Kindle was in May 2008, when the original Kindle was decreased in price from $399 to $359.
